Careers at The Smith School
At The Smith School, we hire dedicated professionals who are committed to their crafts and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. Our employees are experts in their fields and enjoy the flexibility of small class sizes (with a 4:1 student/teacher ratio, our average class size is 5). All teaching employees are supported by the Learning Specialist, service providers, counseling department, colleagues, and the school’s administrative team.
The Smith School strives to provide an environment that stimulates psychological and emotional health, respect for diversity, and a spirit of community. To that end, faculty and staff actively participate in the life of the school. From school events to extracurricular activities, our staff inspires and facilitates the philosophy of our program.
As our mission is to implement a college preparatory curriculum that is highly responsive to students’ learning needs, we are looking for educators who are confident in their content area knowledge, adept with the integration of technology, invigorated by the process of collaboration, and experienced in implementing differentiated instruction for students with a range of learning needs. While New York State Certification and a Masters degree related to one's teaching specialty are highly encouraged, The Smith School also understands that experience and expertise can be cultivated in a variety of ways. If you feel as though your professional and educational background enable you to serve the school's mission effectively, we encourage you to apply.
The Smith School is committed to the principle of equal opportunity employment. It is the school’s policy to employ faculty and staff on the basis of their qualifications, experience, knowledge and ability to perform essential functions of the job. Decisions regarding recruitment, selection, placement and continued employment are based on job-related criteria without regard to the individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability. The Smith School observes all applicable federal and state laws regarding employment.
