At The Smith School, our instructors, mentors, and coaches are dedicated to helping students embrace the full potential of extracurricular and after-school activities. Our athletics, arts, and STEM programs teach students the lifelong values of teamwork, patience, practice, and turning passion into productivity. Recognizing that every student has unique interests, we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities to allow each student to find their passion. Every club is sponsored by a faculty member, and club offerings are responsive to student interests. In fact, students frequently propose, create, and sustain club ideas of their own!

The Smith School Art Club provides a welcoming space where students of all ability levels can explore their creativity through various artistic mediums. Led by both student and teacher guides, Art Club members socialize while completing fun, seasonal crafts and activities, often with a focus on beautifying and contributing to the school environment. Art Club activities are open to student interest and influence and are constantly changing!

Our Anime Club emerged from a student proposal to bring together students who share a passion for anime and Japanese culture. Members engage in discussions, watch series, and explore the art of anime, creating a space for students to connect, share interests, and express themselves.

For those who enjoy strategic thinking and friendly competition, the Board Game Club offers an engaging environment where students can explore a wide variety of tabletop games from classics to new releases while building social connections and critical thinking skills. Board Game Club members can be seen meeting not only during club meetings but working to squeeze in ongoing games of Chess or Risk! whenever there’s a free moment!

Guided by an experienced Game Master and Game Designer, D&D Club students create unique characters and collaborate to overcome challenges in fantastical realms. This tabletop role-playing game helps students develop communication skills, critical thinking, and confidence as they embark on epic adventures together. D&D Club has become so popular that it is our only club to run more than one day each week!

The GSA at The Smith School provides a safe and affirming space for students to explore their identities within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Through discussions, activities, and peer-to-peer support, the GSA helps to foster understanding, acceptance, and solidarity within our diverse community. One of our most popular clubs, GSA is a place for students to discuss both broad and personal topics and to develop strong relationships with peers so that students can thrive as their authentic selves.

Our music club was proposed by students who couldn’t get enough of music! Music club is a space for students to practice their own songs, prepare for performances outside of school, and even create original music together. Our music club has performed in school talent shows as well as community Battle of the Bands. Like our music elective program, music club offers a supportive environment that fosters artistic growth, music skills, and personal expression.
With such a wide range of activities, The Smith School ensures that every student has the chance to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build lasting connections with peers.

Join fellow Pokémon trainers in this fun, outdoor, and interactive club in which students can explore our neighborhood and our school through the eyes of Pokémon GO. Participants team up to catch Pokémon, battle at gyms, and experience the adventure of augmented reality gaming together!

Our sports program is responsive to student interests and available opportunities, and typically includes basketball, soccer, ping pong, and more. Sports rotate by season, providing students with a variety of athletic interests opportunities for physical activity, skill development, teamwork, and fun. We compete with other similar-sized private schools, allowing our students to connect, collaborate, and compete with other students in New York. Regardless of the sport, practices focus on learning fundamental techniques and completing drills to enhance skills, all in a supportive environment that promotes teamwork and good sportsmanship. Each participant is encouraged to build confidence, promote physical wellness, and make lasting social connections.

The Smith School Student Government provides a platform for students to voice their opinions while developing leadership skills. After holding elections at the beginning of the year for a variety of positions, Smith’s Student Government meets regularly to organize events such as the school prom, bake sales, and spirit week, and has historically advocated for initiatives like a working day for high school students. Smith’s Student Government empowers students to play an active role in shaping their school experience and in creating a supportive, welcoming, and involved environment at Smith.

The Smith School Video Game Club is run by a passionate group of students who love gaming. Whether students are into classic games or the latest releases and DLCs, this club offers a fun, inclusive space to enjoy video games. Students develop leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through friendly competition and exciting gameplay, all while connecting with fellow gaming enthusiasts.

Led by our Art Teacher, The Smith School’s yearbook club is made up of students who are interested in combining artistic, digital, and social learning to create our annual yearbook. Yearbook Club members brainstorm fun, community-oriented yearbook spreads, collect photos, and contribute ideas to the design of our yearbook. Favorite sections include “Quotable Quotes” from around the school and matching the baby photo with the staff or student member. Our Yearbook Club is essential to community life at Smith!

The Yo-Yo Club was created by students with a passion for yo-yoing both inside and outside of school. This club encourages students to learn and refine their yo-yo skills in a fun, laid-back environment. Students at all points on their yo-yoing journey gather to watch yo-yo videos, practice their skills, and give each other feedback. Students enjoy the opportunity to challenge themselves, build dexterity, and have fun with like-minded peers.
